Are You Too Emotional?

Are You Too Emotional?

Have you ever watched an epic movie and had your soul stirred by the hero or heroine’s determination to triumph against all odds; or listened to a song or sermon that inspired you, cut straight through to the deepest part of your heart and brought you to tears? Were you embarrassed by your uncharacteristic show of emotion? What if the fact that you connected with that movie, song or sermon on a deep, heart level is the real you—the correct, true and God-created you—and God was using those catalysts to call out to your heart?

“Wake up from your sleep, climb out of your coffins; Christ will show you the light!” Ephesians 5:14, The Message

I believe the world lives in a state of under-emotion and distraction that keeps us numb to the fact that we have a purpose and value that far exceeds what we've been taught to believe. So, how do we wake up and see the Light?

  1. Allow Yourself to Experience Your Epic Moment

Instead of choking back your emotion, go with it. Let God’s Spirit stir your heart. Feel the feelings and receive your purpose. God created you with a gift and a purpose only you can fulfill. That is epic!

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” - Ephesians 2:10, NIV

“You doubt your value. Don't run from who you are.” - Aslan, The Chronicles of Narnia
  2. Connect With God EVERY Morning

Take a few minutes after waking to pray and connect with God. When you realign yourself with who God is, who you are, and your purpose on the planet at the beginning of your day, you set the stage to stay connected to God, receive direction from him, and live in your mission. If you don’t, you will begin to forget your purpose and that your heart was ever stirred in the first place.
  3. Don’t Rely On Your Strength and Abilities

You are amazingly created, no doubt about it! But on your own, you won’t be epically effective. Plug in to the Power Source and let the Holy Spirit shine the light through you.
  4. Choose Your Influences Wisely

Pay attention to what you are allowing to influence you. You’ve heard the saying and it’s true - garbage in/garbage out. Are the things that you let in confirming your epic mission or the world’s status quo? Think about it. You are what you consume. Consume God. Consume his Word. Consume influences that stir your soul and increase your faith and remind you who you really are!

Wake up today, get connected to God and his plan, and really live - what have you got to lose? What you have to gain is an epic life worth living! Be blessed and inspired today and in all the tomorrows to come.
