GOD SPEAKS TO US
HOW TO READ THE BIBLE
God’s Spirit inspired the authors of the Bible to write His Word. So pray for the Spirit to now speak to you as you read the Bible. Begin with a prayer something like this: “God, as I read Your Word I want to hear from You. Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening.”
Read a passage from the Bible.
Restate or summarize the passage or the part that stood out for you in your own words. You may find it helpful to record your thoughts in a notebook, in the margins of your Bible or on your device.
Think through the passage by asking: What does this passage say about God? People? Life? Once again, record your thoughts.
We’re not called to merely listen to the Word, but to do what it says. So finish this phrase, “I will … (start, stop, believe, share with, memorize, etc.).”
Finally, conclude with a prayer like this: “God, thank You for showing me _______ (what you discovered in your Bible reading). Now help me to _______ (how you seek to respond). Amen.”
