Passport - Week 4

Passport calls us to a biblical balance when it comes to worship. That balance could look like this ...

Are you balanced or do you lean a certain way? Which way and why? How could you be more balanced?

Engagement is respect and disengagement is disrespect

Revelation 1:9-18
I, John, am your brother and your partner in suffering and in God’s Kingdom and in the patient endurance to which Jesus calls us. I was exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the word of God and for my testimony about Jesus. It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. It said, “Write in a book everything you see, and send it to the seven churches in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”
When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow.  And his eyes were like flames of fire. His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance.
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, “Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.

1. Is there balance?
2. Who is John?
3. Who is Jesus?
4. Where is Jesus?

Genesis 28:15-16
“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.”

5. What is Worship?

Worth-Ship - Worship is personally and passionately expressing the worth of Jesus

6. Why is Worship so Difficult?

  • We're Human
2 Corinthians 4:18
We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
  • We're Americans
Follow Me: Experiencing the Loving Leadership for Jesus by Jan David Hettinga
If I want the benefit of salvation, it will cost me my personal sovereignty, my independent autonomy, my own agenda, my “throne.” Why? Because that is exactly what I must be saved from in the first place!
Since the heart of our sin problem is our self-centered need to be in control, unless that is addressed in salvation, and the back of our resistance is broken through repentance, nothing really changes. Grace, the supernatural forgiving love and transforming power of God, is released through the deliberate act of giving up the kingdom of self.
When salvation embraces the kingdom a new government arrives. The ultimate issue of WHO is in control is the focus of all your choices from now on, day by day, for the rest of your life. He is your Leader. You are His follower.
