- Drinking ________ leads to ________
- Drinking the Spirit leads to …
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord, always thanking God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Drinking the Spirit leads to mutual encouragement, personal worship, continual gratitude and communal health
How Do You Drink Up the Holy Spirit?
- Come to Jesus
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
After you come to Jesus are you done drinking the Spirit?
Be filled and keep on being filled … (Present continual tense)
- Thirst and keep on thirsting
“Since you can do nothing without me, how much help do you want?”
- Ask and keep on asking
So I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.
- Believe and keep on believing
1 John 5:14
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
- Obey and keep on obeying
1 John 14:23
Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”
