Cambridge University
Stephen W. Hawking, the Cambridge University physicist and best selling author who roamed the cosmos from a wheelchair, pondering the nature of gravity and the origin of the universe and becoming an emblem of human determination and curiosity, died early Wednesday at his home in Cambridge. He was 76. Not since Albert Einstein has a scientist so captured the public imagination and endeared himself to tens of millions of people around the world.

Stephen Hawking used his intellect in mind-boggling ways, but he came to conclusions that were at odds with the Bible

Stephen Hawking
Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe, but now science offers a more convincing explanation. What I meant by "we would know the mind of God" is we would know everything that God would know, if there were a God, which there isn't. I'm an atheist.

Genesis 1:1,3

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Psalm 19:1-4

The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.
Psalm 14 & 53

Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.”

Science and the Bible agree …

  • The universe had a beginning
Stephen Hawking
Almost everyone now believes that the universe, and time itself, had a beginning at the big bang.

Common sense suggests that no matter the size of the bang, bangs have causes!

A big bang suggests a Big Banger!

It's the law of cause and effect

  •  The universe is fine-tuned to make life possible on earth

There are 50 different factors that are precisely dialed in to support life

Fine-tuning suggests a Fine-Tuner!

Fredrick Burnham (Historian of Science)

The idea that God created the universe is a more respectable hypothesis than at any time in the last 100 years.
  • And where they don’t, we don’t need to panic
James Tour (Nanoscientist from Rice University)

Only a rookie who knows nothing about science would say science takes away from faith. If you really study science, it will bring you closer to God

The Bible’s Message

  1. The Universe has a Creator
  2. The Universe needs a Savior
  3. Our Creator is our Savior!
Colossians 1:15-23
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
Christ is also the head of the church,
    which is his body.
He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead.
So he is first in everything.
For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ,
and through him God reconciled
    everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.
This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.

Bill Graham's story of the ants ...

Prepare to Meet Thy Maker

Jesus, I believe You are my Creator. And now I need You to be my Savior. I know that I will die someday. And I want to be ready to meet You on that day. So I thank You for dying for me. I repent of my sin, I trust in Your forgiveness and from now on I will follow You. Amen.
