EPHESIANS 5-18.KEEP ON (1).001.png

Ephesians 1:3

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

3 Types of Blessings

1. Blessings we already have

Forgiveness, justification, adoption, God as our Father, the presence of the Spirit

2. Blessings we will get later in the Future

Resurrected bodies, perfected like Jesus, eternal community with God

3. Blessings we must keep on seeking for today

Victory over the flesh, personal holiness, awareness of the Presence of God, fruitfulness in ministry

To summarize ...

  1. Already Now Blessings
  2. Not Yet Future Blessings
  3. Keep On Seeking Blessings

Have you thought about there being 3 different types of blessings? Which blessings are "new" to you?

Luke 11:9-13 (NLT)

And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.

What Type of Blessing is Jesus referring to? Why is the present continuous tense so important for the Christian?

James 4:2-3

You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

Why don't we ask? Which answer best describes your reason? Is there another reason why we don't ask?

1. We didn't know we had to
2. We gave up because we didn’t get it …YET
3. We don’t really want it

Why don't we get what we ask for? Why is it important to ask for "authorized" blessings?

Here are A.W. Tozer’s points regarding Keep on Seeking Blessings. This is from the chapter entitled "Our Unclaimed Riches" in his book That Incredible Christian

1. You will get nothing unless you go after it
2. You may have as much as you insist on having
3. You will have as little as you are satisfied with
4. You now have as much as you really want

What do you think about Tozer's points?

St. Augustine

Without God, I can’t / Without me, God won’t

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

A.W. Tozer

Every man is as close to God as he wants to be; he is as holy and as full of the Spirit as he wills to be.

Yet we must distinguish wanting and wishing. By “want” I mean wholehearted desire. Certainly there are many who wish they were holy or victorious or joyful but are not willing to meet God’s conditions to obtain.

That God has placed before His redeemed children a vast world of spiritual treasures and that they refuse or neglect to claim it may easily turn out to be the second greatest tragedy in the history of moral creation, the first and greatest being the fall of man.

Why does God respect our choices? Why is our will absolutely critical?

What is the dynamic between human will-power and God-empowered human will-power

Philippians 2:12-13

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Colossians 1:29

To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.

1 Corinthians 15:10

By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

Have you ever driven a car without power steering? With God we have POWER STEERING! We steer and He empowers it!

Have you ever driven a car without power steering? With God we have POWER STEERING! We steer and He empowers it!

How does power steering and braking illustration the dynamic between human will-power and God-empowered human will-power?

So what do you want God to do for you? What are you willing to do to seek it with all your heart?

How can your group pray for you?
