Revive florida

It was great having Nate Beachy from Revive Florida with us this Sunday. He focused on the story of Peter and Cornelius. This story is told in detail in Acts 10 and then summarized in Acts 11. It’s an amazing story of God speaking and people responding.

Acts 11:4-12

Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

“I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

“The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

“Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house.”

God spoke in several ways to Peter here. How did God speak and how did Peter respond? Why was it such a big deal for Peter to go to Cornelius’ home?

Acts 10:30-33

Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor. Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’ So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come.”

How did God speak to Cornelius and how did he respond?

Acts 10:33-34

Cornelius answered: “Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”

Then Peter began to speak:

And Peter told them the Good News of Jesus, they believed, were filled with the Holy Spirit and were baptized.

Once again, how did God speak to Cornelius and how did he respond?

Share a time when you believe God communicated with you? How did He communicate? How did your respond? What were the results?

God also uses people to speak to us, like God used Peter to speak to Cornelius. Has God ever used someone else to speak to you? What did they say that you knew was from the Lord?

You’ll often hear the phrase “to hear is to obey” around JesusChurch. Why is this a good motto to live by? Why might it be difficult to do?

Why is simply asking the question, “How can I pray for you?” and then really listening a good way to open a spiritual conversation with someone? Have you? What happened?

What do you think about the Revive Florida color wristbands and the color-coordinated Bibles? Do you think that would be helpful in sharing the Good News of Jesus?

How could you as an individual or your small group get involved with Revive Florida? What about going together as a group to an evening dinner and service. Here’s the schedule.

Can you help with Wednesday morning’s breakfast?

Can you provide a host home for a Revive Florida volunteer?
