Christmas (PEACE) - Questions

A QUESTIONABLE CHRISTMAS - 1.Hebrews 6.Advent 2018.001.png

When you can’t sleep at night, do you …

  • Lay there quietly

  • Toss and turn

  • Moan and groan so others know you are up

  • Read

  • Eat

  • Other?

Read …

Colossians 3:1-3

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

When it comes to peace (make that life), do you generally first look down “using a microscope” to examine the details of your life to determine your feelings and decisions OR do you first look up “using a telescope” to get perspective from God? Why? And what have the results been for you?

To help us look up this Christmas season read …

Isaiah 9:6-7

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Take a moment and remind each other what these 3 couplets based on Isaiah 9 are about …

Look Down - A child is born
Look Up - A son is given

Look Down - Human
Look Up - God - Amazing Titles!

Look Down - David’s Throne
Look Up - Heaven’s Throne

Here are some points to encourage you to first look up and then look down. Which point is a new thought to you? Which point speaks most to you? What point would you add?

  • Christmas is the invasion of the Prince of Peace into enemy-occupied territory.

1 John 3:8

The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

  • Jesus made peace by declaring war on sin, Satan, sickness, death, religion, racism, addiction, etc.

  • Jesus fought with the weapons of love, truth, sacrifice, forgiveness, reconciliation. The love of God is the Atom Bomb of the spiritual world.

  • Jesus WON through His perfect life, His sacrificial death and His glorious resurrection and now sits at His Father’s right hand.

  • If Jesus is your Lord (KING) you have nothing to fear and can be full of peace (PEACE-FUL).

  • Even though we don’t always know where we’re going, we know whom we’re following and He knows where He’s going and that’s good enough for us.

  • Since Jesus reigns in peace, we can remain at peace!

  • Other?

What issue are your facing that you need to look up and then look down to get some perspective and peace? How can your group pray for you?
