Pursuit (1) - Notes

1 TIMOTHY 6-11.THE PURSUIT-1.001.png

1 Timothy 6:10-12

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith.

2 Timothy 2:22

Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

DISTRACTED Christianity

  • Distracted by Wealth

  • Distracted by Comfort

So Let’s Get Focused and Aggressive

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Matthew 6:33

Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

But what about Grace?!

  • Man of God

  • Along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart

These aren’t Paul’s instructions on how to get saved, but how to live once you are saved

Dallas Willard

Grace is not opposed to EFFORT, it is opposed to EARNING. Earning is an attitude. Effort is an action. Grace, you know, does not just have to do with forgiveness of sins alone.

1 Corinthians 15:10

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

A.W. Tozer’s challenging points from Our Unclaimed Riches

  1. You will get nothing unless you go after it

  2. You may have as much as you insist on having

  3. You will have as little as you are satisfied with

  4. You now have as much as you really want

A.W. Tozer

That God has placed before His REDEEMED CHILDREN a vast world of spiritual treasures and that they refuse or neglect to claim it may easily turn out to be the second greatest tragedy in the history of moral creation, the first and greatest being the fall of man.

Yet we must distinguish wanting and wishing. By “want” I mean wholehearted desire. Certainly there are many who wish they were holy or victorious or joyful but are not willing to meet God’s conditions to obtain.

Everyone is as close to God as they want to be; they are as full of the Holy Spirit as they will to be.
