Seek God (4) - Questions
Week 4 - To establish righteousness in our cities
Let’s try our memory work again …
2 Timothy 2:22
Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Let’s explore the RIGHT and WRONG way to pursue righteousness.
Romans 9:31 - 10:3
What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness, have not attained their goal. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone. As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who believes in him will never be put to shame.” Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
What’s the RIGHT way to pursue righteousness? What’s the WRONG way? Why is Jesus a stumble block to the Jewish people?
Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”
What’s the COMMAND and the DEMAND of righteousness?
Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
Why is Jesus the CULMINATION of the law and righteousness? React to this quote and passage …
The Good News: OBEDIENCE saves us! It’s just not our own; it’s Jesus’!
For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
Let’s try another passage that we have memorized …
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
If the RIGHT way to pursue righteousness is to receive the GIFT of Jesus’ righteousness (obedience) through FAITH. Where does OBEDIENCE fit in for the believer? Is OBEDIENCE as a way to pursue righteousness for the Christian? If so, how so?
How can righteousness be a WITNESS to others? How is the witness of your righteousness?
